Pioneering Carbon Capture and Storage Solutions

As an ambitious player in the industry FB Group believes that carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS) will play a role in global efforts to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. With our expertise and experience and driven by our commitment to contribute to a sustainable energy future, we aim to have impact to the onshore and offshore Carbon Capture and Storage solutions. FB Group already successfully supplied Guard Bed (H2S removal) and TSA Unit (Dehydration) being part of the Porthos CCS Project.

What carbon capture, utilization and storage involves

CCUS covers the full chain of capturing CO2 from industrial sources, conditioning it to the right specification, and either putting it to further use or transporting it for permanent storage, typically in depleted gas fields or other suitable underground reservoirs. Each of these steps places its own demands on process equipment: captured CO2 streams often contain impurities such as sulphur compounds and water that have to be removed before the gas can safely enter a pipeline network or storage site, which is where treatment units become essential to the overall CCS chain.

Guard Bed and TSA units for the Porthos project

For the Porthos CCS project, FB Group supplied a Guard Bed for H2S removal together with a TSA Unit for dehydration. The Guard Bed protects downstream equipment and the storage reservoir by removing hydrogen sulphide from the CO2 stream, while the TSA (Temperature Swing Adsorption) Unit dries the gas to prevent water related corrosion and hydrate formation further along the transport and storage chain. Together, these units condition the captured CO2 so it consistently meets the specification required before it is compressed and transported offshore for storage beneath the North Sea.

Supporting both onshore and offshore CCS

FB Group’s ambition extends across the full scope of CCS infrastructure, from onshore conditioning facilities where CO2 is first treated after capture, to the offshore systems involved in transporting and injecting it into storage reservoirs. Applying the same engineering, fabrication and testing capabilities used across the company’s other gas treatment projects allows FB Group to bring proven, reliable process technology to this relatively young but fast growing part of the energy transition.
