Design and fabrication of a skid mounted natural gas processing plant. This plant will allow a large cement factory in Libya to change their energy system from oil based to natural gas and ultimately into electricity which will result in a considerable reduction in environmental impact. The complete plant has been built using the skid mounted concept which will allow short and easy installation time by the local site contractor.
Switching a cement factory from oil to natural gas
Cement production is an energy intensive process, and the fuel used to power it has a direct impact on a plant’s overall emissions profile. By converting the factory’s energy system from oil based combustion to natural gas, and ultimately to electricity, the operator can reduce emissions while also gaining access to a more consistent and often more cost effective fuel supply. The gas conditioning plant is the enabling step in this transition, treating the incoming natural gas so it meets the quality and pressure requirements of the factory’s burners and equipment.
Why the skid mounted concept works for remote sites
Building the plant as a series of pre-assembled, pre-tested skids rather than constructing it entirely on site brings clear advantages for a project in a location like Libya. Each skid is fabricated and tested under controlled workshop conditions, which reduces the amount of specialised welding, piping and instrumentation work that has to be carried out in the field. Once the skids arrive at the cement factory, the local site contractor can connect them together and tie them into existing utilities in a fraction of the time a fully field erected plant would require, limiting both project schedule risk and the need for specialist labour on site.
Supporting a lower emission energy system
Beyond the immediate fuel switch, this project reflects a broader shift many industrial operators are making as they look to reduce their environmental footprint: moving step by step from oil, to natural gas, to electricity where feasible. A reliable gas conditioning plant is a practical foundation for that pathway, since it ensures the natural gas feeding the factory’s processes is delivered safely and at the specification the downstream equipment needs.
