Fuel Gas Package for Offshore installation

FB Group has recently supplied a Fuel Gas Package for an offshore platform located in the North Sea. All fabrication works (structural, piping and E&I installation) have been performed in-house. The package has been extensively tested, including high pressure leak test prior to load-out.

What a fuel gas package does on an offshore platform

A fuel gas package conditions and supplies gas to the engines, turbines and other gas consuming equipment on an offshore platform, ensuring they receive fuel at the correct pressure, temperature and quality to operate safely and efficiently. On a manned or unmanned installation, this makes the package a critical link between the platform’s gas supply and the equipment that depends on it for power generation and other utility functions, so reliability and safety are central to its design.

Full in-house fabrication scope

FB Group carried out the complete fabrication scope for this package under one roof, covering the structural steelwork, piping and electrical and instrumentation (E&I) installation. Keeping structural, piping and E&I work in-house allowed the different disciplines to be closely coordinated throughout fabrication, reducing interface risk between trades and supporting a consistent quality standard across the entire package before it left the workshop.

Testing before load-out

Before the package was released for load-out, it underwent extensive testing, including a high pressure leak test. This step verifies the integrity of piping and connections under conditions representative of actual operation, giving confidence that the package will perform safely once installed offshore. Carrying out this testing in the controlled environment of FB Group’s own workshop, rather than after installation on the platform, helps catch and resolve any issues before the package is committed to its final offshore location. It also shortens the commissioning work that still has to take place once the package reaches the platform, since the main functional checks have already been completed and documented onshore.
